Watch The Exclusive Footage Of The Rare And Sacred White Bison Calf
Only one in 10 million American bisons are born white. And now, one of these rare animals can call Sioux Valley Dakota Nation home.
“We are proud to have him join our family and are happy that he and his species are getting the recognition that they deserve,” First Nation said on Facebook.
White American bison have long held sacred and spiritual value to Native American communities. Offerings wrapped in colourful ribbons and pouches are tied to a fence outside the bison pasture near Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, Man.
“The arrival of the white buffalo is like the coming of Great Spirit,” says Floyd Hand Looks For Buffalo, an Oglala Medicine Man from Pine Ridge, South Dakota.
“It will bring about purity of mind, body, and spirit and ;unify all nations—black, red, yellow, and white.” The birth of the sacred white buffalo provides those within the Native American community with a sense of hope and an indication that good times are to come.
