Extremely rare “magic rabbit” spotted for the first time in more than 20 years
This little interesting creature first appeared in 1983 and is among the most endangered in the world. It’s about Ili pika (Ochotona iliensis), one of the most sympathetic mammals we know of.
Li Weidong was the first to discover this “magic rabbit”, which comes from very distant parts of northwest China. He is also the man who managed to capture these amazing scenes after more than 20 years.
According to Weidong, there are only about a thousand such creatures left in the world. Their number has dropped by 70% since the early 1980s.
He told CNN that since the discovery of this interesting creature, he has watched it become an endangered species. He also said he would be very sorry if this species disappeared in front of him.
This man was determined to study a little about these wonderful creatures and to learn as much as possible about them. He invited 20 people with whom he searched for these elusive animals to try to preserve their species. Although he spent a lot of his money on research, the authorities did not notice him.
Li is aware that these wonderful animals could disappear at any moment, there is no more them on their old places.
Since Li is almost 60 years old, he knows that he will no longer be able to climb the Tianshan Mountains. The hope remains that some organization will have enough good people to find out everything they need and protect Ili pika.
According to Weidong, these “magic rabbits” used to live in the Tianshian Mountains at incredible heights of up to 13,450 feet.
